Sorry for the long review, I'm just really excited (and bored) so thought I would share. Background: Well, I initially started out looking for an S4/M5 (yes, I know.very impracticle.especially after coming from a highly modified show Lexus IS300 Turbo) and quickly found that spending $25k for 2001 S4 with many potential problems was quickly falling on my priorities list. It just sounded like another modding addiction nightmare. I was already researching turbos, chips, etc. So I started looking into my next favorite brand of 'cars' just for the fun of it.Jeeps. I have owned 4 since high school and all of them have been great vehicles.3 of which have lasted well into the 100,000 mile mark. I had about $25k as a budget which was putting me in the range of a 2002-2003 Overland of limited version with anywhere from 20-40k miles.
I was just not finding what I wanted. I am VERY picky when it comes to vehicles.
The color, engine, options, interior/exterior, ride, warranty, past owners, etc. Comfy. All come into play for me. It was hard looking for a used Jeep on the net since there are SO MANY to choose from. Now that dealers are flooding the autotraders, eBays, and cars.com sites, its tough finding a good deal from a private party. After test driving a few at the dealer just to get an idea of the different options available and feel for the grand cherokees, I knew what I wanted and what I definately DID NOT want. I definately did not want: high mileage (anything over 30k miles), full painted body, overland/limited (too pricey), clear headlights, leather, and certainly did not want to buy from a Jeep dealership.those guys were idiots, absolutely clueless!!
What I did want were the following: Silver, dark interior, navigation, V8 with High Output, Dana44, dark headlights, two tone paint, cherokee model (at that time I had no idea what the Columbia Edition even was), towing package, and a few other items. So it seemed like it would be very hard to find.not so. I logged into eBay just to see what was available on this wonderful online auction site.and snap.right on the first page was my dream Jeep Grand Cherokee.
2004 Grand Cherokee Columbia Edition Silver 15,500 miles Custom Seats Two tone paint V8 HO - 265-275hp dark headlights tinted windows 17' wheels dana44 towing package and tons more!! *btw, I ended up paying just about $23,500 out the door* So, I contacted the seller that second and told him to send me his buy it now price. We went back and forth on the price for a few, he answered all my remainging questions and then came to an agreement. I sent him a deposit that day and fedex'd him my final check the next day. Gre Psr 295 Software Companies there. It was done quick and easy. I flew down yesterday to South Carolina with my dad and we picked up the car from the dealer and drove it back to MD.
I think my ONLY concern with the Jeep was the gas mileage and that will probably sink further in as I drive it more and more and actually realize the pain of filling up that 20g tank with 93.especaially this summer. So here is my review from the drive from SC to MD: Comfort: A - The seats are soft, but sturdy, and hold you in place. Tons of leg room and the electric adj seats move in many directions to better find that driving sweet spot. The rear seats have tons of room as well and oh yeah.the custom Columbia two tone seats are HOT!! Damn they look good. Interior Clutter: A - There is no clutter.
I actually fell in love with the exterior of the car from the eBay ad, but the interior is what I really love now. The instrument panel, gauges, trip computer (more on this below), navigation/radio (more on this below), shifters, and more were all so user friendly and easy to use!! Trip Computer: A - This was a pleasant surprise. I didn't even know the car had it! This was very useful during the trip home. Compass, outside temperature, tire pressure warning system, miles left before an empty tank, MANY various vehicle options such as do you want the car horn to beep once when locking the doors and arming the security system.just really cool features all in a system I had no idea even existed. RB1 Navigation/Radio: A+ - This all in one baby is perfect.
